Back in the day when Chinese maidens are not allowed to venture out on their own unaccompanied by a chaperone matchmakers or marriage brokers were the go-to to find a suitable marriage partner.

Chap Goh Meh Chinese New Year marks the beginning of spring and it is also to welcome the lunar-new year. Traditionally families would gather for another round of harmonious reunion and make aspirations for a happy and peaceful year ahead. In the Hokkien dialect Chap Goh Mei simply means the 15th night of Chinese New Year.
